Brogar's Errand — the Training Golems
Training Golems stand in two yards, one in Thais and one in Edron. They never die, they never hurt you, and you can hit them all day to train your weapon skills and shielding. Both yards are behind a locked door, and Brogar the dwarf keeps the key.
This is the first quest you should do. It has no combat in it and it is designed to be finished straight out of Rookgaard.
- Find Brogar in the forge near Kazordoon, among the moulds and pipes.
- Say hi, then mission. He asks for 20 Copper Ore.
- Get your free pickaxe from Dougal, the master miner. He hands a Copper Pickaxe to any apprentice who asks — it costs nothing and needs nothing done first.
- Mine 20 copper. Copper is the only ore that needs mining level 1, so a brand new character can do it — see the Mining guide for where the veins are.
- Go back, say mission, then yes.
Reward
- Permanent access to both training yards, Thais and Edron. One errand opens both, and any yard added later.
- A training weapon matched to your vocation to get you started.
How to use the golems: walk up and attack one to train normally, or use an exercise weapon on it — do not try to equip the weapon, it goes in the hand of nobody. Each charge is worth a fixed amount of training and the weapon breaks when it runs out.
The Dwarf Task — opening the Iron Mine
Anyone can mine the veins scattered around the world. The mines are different: closed caves, packed with veins, that you pay to enter for an hour at a time. The first one has to be earned.
- Talk to Dougal and ask about the mine.
- He sends you to kill 500 dwarves. Every kind counts: dwarf, dwarf soldier, dwarf guard, dwarf geomancer, dwarf henchman and dwarf miner.
- Ask him about the mine again at any point to hear your running total.
- At 500, the Iron Mine opens.
| Mine | Entry | Time | What is in it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Mine | 10,000 gold | 1 hour | Copper and iron, packed together |
You pay the foreman at the gate each time you go in. There is an exit portal inside if you want to leave early; otherwise you are sent out when the hour is up.
Reward
- The Iron Mine, open for as long as you keep paying the foreman.
- Pickaxes become craftable in the forge. Dougal's free Copper Pickaxe is a one-off gift; from here on you can forge your own and upgrade them a tier at a time, all the way to the aetherium pick.
The Deep Mine
Dougal's second job, and the only way to reach adamantium in quantity.
- Finish the Dwarf Task first.
- Reach level 80. Dougal will not discuss it before that.
- Ask him about the deep mine.
| Mine | Entry | Time | What is in it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deep Mine | 20,000 gold | 1 hour | Coal and adamantium |
